Review: Hope in a jar - Philosophy

Hi guys! This is my 1st review on a skincare product. I got it 2 months ago and actually it is my main moisturizer now. So these are some opinions of mine about this product after 2 months using.

Firstly, I want to tell u guys about my skin's condition. It is oily, really oily and very sensitive, it can be easy to breakout. I also have some scars on my both cheeks. Now in Viet Nam, its summer time and my face looks like an oil pan all the time. Sometime I think using Moisturizer in the hot weather is an ugly idea. However, I still keep moisturizer in skincare routine because I read some informations from a beauty magazine ( which I can't remember the name), they said that although your skin is oily, using moisturizer is needed to feed the skin with water and prevent the skin producing much more oil.

And here we go, the review on Hope in a jar from Philosophy.

hope in a jar

This is what www.philosophy.com says about this product :

Hope in a jar is a world-famous, daily facial moisturizer originally created for the medical market to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, skin discoloration, rough texture and dehydration. hope in a jar is an award-winning facial skin care cream loaded with antioxidants in a unique soufflé texture. it hydrates the skin to reduce dryness as it gently exfoliates to leave skin smoother, healthier and more radiant.

you need this product if...
  • you want to give your skin a drink of water, not a cup of oil
  • your skin is normal with a traditional t-zone
  • your skin is sallow and you want it to be more rosy
  • your skin is sun damaged
  • you like a moisturizer that is lightweight and non-greasy
  • you want skin that is makeup optional

  • Sound great, right? In fact I bought it just because " you want to give your skin a drink of water, not a cup of oil ". Haha, yes - I want. I got one which is 0.5oz ( 15ml ) and had to pay 19$. This isn't right price, I paid much more because I am living in Viet Nam and have to pay much for shipping. You can order it from the web philosophy or sephora.

    My review:

Packaging: It is in a simple but really attractive jar. I really like the way they advertise "Where there is hope there can be faith, where there is faith can occur". The name Hope in a jar is an interesting idea too.

Texture: light creamy and it is really easy to blend into the skin.

    Pros :
    - It moisturizes my skin but doesn't make the oily feeling. Non - oily and non creasy.
    - doesn't feel heavy on skin
    - soften the skin so much. My scars seemed fading after using 2 weeks.
    - doesn't breakout my skin. Haha thank God so much for this. I tend to be breakout easily with all products.
    - absorbs quickly
    - the tiny jar can last so long. Believe me, I just got 15ml and used it for more than 2 months, but it still remains so much.

    Cons :
    - The smell is so terrible when you first try it, just like you are using tons of chemical substances on your face. Really frightened, but if you are patient enough to give it some another chances, you will be familiar with the smell and almost forget it because of satisfying with its quality. In fact some ppl can't bear this ugly smell, so they throw it away or sell it after just 1 time try.
    - quite expensive in my opinion

It is my fav moisturizer now. I am stick with it because it works on my skin. I also think that it will work on all skintype other. But if you want to try this product, be sure you have patient enough to use it for some times. Give it a belief, and it doesn't make you disappointed. I promise. Hehe.

Lastly, this is my look yesterday. Simple and natural, huh? I used BB cream lioele, EM powder and Lioele lip gloss, some eyeshadow on my eye and blush from Bourjois . That 's all.

Hope u guys like this review. I will try to make other review on BB cream, which I use mainly as my foundation now.
